Francesco Totti may have missed out on being named in Italy's preliminary World Cup squad, club coach Claudio Ranieri intimated on Saturday. Roma striker Totti had been considering coming out of international retirement for the June 11-July 11 tournament in South Africa but media reports have said coach Marcello Lippi has decided against recalling him and has informed the club.

Steven Gerrard's days as a Liverpool player could be number following the news that Real Madrid are preparing to make a £30 million bid for the England midfielder. Gerrard recently admitted that he will consider his options once the World Cup is over and there is growing speculation that the Liverpool captain will leave Anfield to join Jose Mourinho in Madrid. Germany won their debut game quite convincingly, 4-0 against Australia, while Serbia slipped up and lost 1-0 to Ghana. A win for Germany would mean qualifying for the next round but Serbia have to win too if they want to preserve their chances of progressing to the next stage. Will Germany march on past Serbia too?
