The first knockout round of the Champions League will kick off on Tuesday and Italian leaders AC Milan will meet Tottenham Hotspur at San Siro. Both teams have won their weekend league games, AC Milan beat Parma 4-0 at home while Tottenham beat Sunderland 2-1 away.
Current Serie A leaders AC Milan will meet second placed Napoli on Monday in the top of the table derby. The two teams are separated by only three points so whoever wins this will receive a big boost in the title race. Both teams won last weekend, AC Milan beat Chievo 2-1 away from home while Napoli grabbed a narrow 1-0 win over Catania. However, Napoli suffered a setback on Thursday as they were knocked out of the Europa League after losing at Villarreal.
A classic Italian derby will take place on Saturday as 7th placed Juventus meet current Serie A leaders AC Milan. Juventus suffered a painful 2-0 defeat last week at the hands of Bologna while AC Milan extended their lead at the top of the table to five points after beating second placed Napoli 3-0.
Tottenham grabbed a surprising success in the first leg by beating AC Milan 1-0 at the San Siro but they will have to hold on to that lead at White Hart lane on Wednesday if they want to book their passage to the next round. AC Milan have bounced back well from that defeat and recorded three consecutive wins in the Serie A, including a 3-0 victory against title rivals Napoli. Tottenham have not been doing so well as they got beaten 3-1 by Blackpool before a 3-3 draw against Wolves.
AC Milan forward Filippo Inzaghi has brushed aside reports that he will retire at the end of the season. Inzaghi, 36, has made just four Serie A starts in 23 league appearances for the Rossoneri. Inzaghi said in an interview with La Stampa: "The time to retire has not arrived yet. I still want to beat some records and I would like to do that with this jersey and for these fans who have always loved me."
Serie A leaders AC Milan will meet 9th placed Palermo in a difficult away game on Saturday. Milan barely snatched a 1-1 draw at home last week against relegation candidates Bari but Palermo are coming from five consecutive defeats and four games without scoring in a row.
