Owen, who joined United on a free transfer last summer, scored his ninth goal of the season during the Carling Cup final in February before suffering a hamstring injury that ruled him out of the run-in. "My fitness is good," he said. "I saw the surgeon in London two weeks ago and he was really pleased. Everything went well with the operation and the aim is to be doing everything with the lads on the first day of pre-season training."

His last appearance for his country was in March 2008 and since then Fabio Capello always preferred other strikers. But Michael Owen say that he isn't giving up: "I've got 89 caps so far. I played for England for many years, starting when I was 18. I played basically right the way through until about two years ago, which was my last game. So hopefully I will play for them again one day, you never know."

Michael Owen scored for Manchester United today as Sir Alex Ferguson's men beat Aston Villa 2-1 at Wembley to win the Carling Cup for the second year running. Much has been said about Michael Owen's chances of making it into Fabio Capello's World Cup squad, with the player admitting himself, he thinks it's unlikely he will be on the plane to South Africa. What do you think?

Michael Owen has yet again been ruled out by an injury and he admitted that he has not entered talks to renew his contract with Manchester United. The 30-year old striker will see his current deal expire at the end of the season and he said that if he won't be given a new contract with the Red Devils he might consider hanging up his boots.

Michael Owen got injured during the Carling Cup final and the doctors didn't have any good news for him: his hamstring injury will keep him out of action for the rest of the season. He won't be at the World Cup but is his career at this level over or will he be able to bounce back in the spotlight?

Manchester United may be Carling Cup champions after defeating Aston Villa at Wembley but they too are not without big problems at the club. Some people say that Owen is a World Cup striker but do you think Alex Ferguson has signed an injury prone flop?

Michael Owen has today said that he still wants to reprsent England and he is ready to answer Fabio Capello's call should it come. Do you think Owen will ever win another cap for England?
