Inter Milan and Bayern Munich will meet again on Wednesday in a remake of last season's Champions League final. This time they clash much earlier in the competition, the first knockout round, but the battle should be equally fierce. Inter Milan are still hoping to win the Serie A title after grabbing two consecutive wins while Bayern are pretty much out of the title race in the Bundesliga despite beating Mainz 3-1 last weekend.
The Milan derby will take place on Sunday, a classic of the Italian Serie A that finds both teams in desperate need for points and confidence. AC Milan have moved top of the table after the midweek match day and they will want to hold on to that top spot while defending champions Inter have slipped into fourth position after being held to a draw at Lecce.
They worked together between 1997 and 2000 at Barcelona, Van Gaal was the manager and Mourinho was his assistant. Both of them already won the Champions League trophy, Van Gaal with Ajax in 1995 and Mourinho with FC Porto in 2004. Mourinho described Van Gaal as being his friend and former "teacher" while being employed at Barcelona.
Bayern Munich have won the first leg 1-0 at San Siro but Inter will be looking to overturn the tie on Tuesday and make another step towards defending the trophy that they have won last season after beating Bayern in the final. Bayern won their last league game 6-0 against Hamburg while Inter were held to a 1-1 draw at Brescia.
The fierce Milan derby will have another episode on display at San Siro on Saturday and this time the game is also extremely important for the title race. AC Milan are top of the table on 62 points but defending champions Inter are just two points behind them in second place. AC Millan suffered a painful defeat in the last league game, 1-0 away at Palermo, while Inter squeezed past Lecce at home, 1-0.

Inter are no less than 10 points behind Serie A leaders AC Milan and their poor run continued with a 3-0 loss at Werder Bremen in the Champions League. It seems that the Club World Cup is Rafa's last chance to save his job as Inter will be traveling to Abu Dhabi at the end of the week.
