Juventus defender Fabio Grosso and Udinese midfielder Antonio Candreva have been cut from the Italy squad for the World Cup as coach Marcello Lippi reduced his 30-man provisional group to 28. Grosso was a pivotal player for Italy four years ago, scoring the decisive first goal against Germany in the semi-final and then the winning spot-kick in the penalty shootout against France in the final.

Nemanja Vidic gave away a penalty as Serbia narrowly beat Germany 1-0 in Group D of the World Cup today. The Manchester United defender was shown a yellow card for the hand ball but do you think he should have seen red? Vote now!

Liverpool accepted a 7 million pound bid from German side Hoffenheim and Ryan Babel is expected to sign a contract with the Bundesliga side. Babel has been unable to make the anticipated impact on Merseyside following his £11.5million signing in the summer of 2007. He made just 31 Premier League starts in his time with Liverpool.
