Defense is the most thankless job in the soccer field yet without a proper defense the team will be like a warrior without his shield. England manager, Fabio Capello, sat in the stands to watch Becks play in his first European game of the season. Beckham moved back to Milan to prove himself worthy of the England squad for the 2010 world cup.

Fabio Capello really can't be ignoring Darren Bent's strong claims for a World Cup spot. He hit 21 goals yesterday with a nice over high-flying Birmingham City. Surely the former Spurs man will earn a spot in the team now that Defoe is unlikely to feature?

Juventus defender Fabio Grosso and Udinese midfielder Antonio Candreva have been cut from the Italy squad for the World Cup as coach Marcello Lippi reduced his 30-man provisional group to 28. Grosso was a pivotal player for Italy four years ago, scoring the decisive first goal against Germany in the semi-final and then the winning spot-kick in the penalty shootout against France in the final.

Before tonight's friendly game against Hungary Fabio Capello says that he is prepared to take the boos and jeers at Wembley: "The first XI will be players who were at the World Cup. This is sure because, like me, they have to take the booing. I expect boos. Why not? We win together, we lose together. Always, I respect the crowd but I am the boss. They have to boo me like the players." Do you think they deserve to be booed?

Adam Johnson played himself into the spotlight at Manchester City and England boss Fabio Capello looks like he's going to give him a chance to play at the World Cup. Capello said: "Adam Johnson has caught my eye this season. He's come up from the Championship at Middlesbrough, where he played in a different position, and he's done well with Manchester City."
