Lionel Andrés Messi is an Argentine footballer who was born in June 24th 1987. He is currently 23 years old. Lionel is considered to be one of the footballers around and plays for the FC Barcelona and is on the Argentina national team. Lionel has received honors in many different fields. For Argentina he has won the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2005 and in 2008 he won an olympic gold medal. Some of his individual achievements include being the FIFA world player of the year in 2009. His team won FIFA team of the year in 2008, and 2009. He was the European Footballer of the year in 2009 and he was a U-21 European footballer of the year in 2007. He has won Player of the year for Argentina four times in 2005, 2007, 2008, and 2009.



His romantic life once involved a girl named Macarena Lemos who was a sweetheart from his hometown in Rosario. He has also dated a model by the name of Luciana Salazar. Lionel Messi is currently dating a girl known as Antonella Roccuzzo and the two are planning to get married at around the end of 2010. Lionel is also involved in a lot of charity work having established the organization known as Fundacion Leo Messi. It is a charity that supports helping vulnerable children gain access to health care and education. This is in part because he himself had a very rough childhood. The foundation supports children who need medical help by providing treatment in Spain and covering all the costs associated with the treatment including transportation as well. Leo Messi plans to continue reaching new heights in his career as well his continuing with his charity work. In March 2010, Messi was announced to become a goodwill ambassador for the UNICEF organization.
