There are many arguments as to which goal in football can be considered the greatest. The greatest arguments will all cite major players of the sport, but will narrow them down to the 1986 FIFA World Cup where two major goals made waves throughout the football world. Whether or not you're a football fan, you can truly see the competitive rivalries come out shining through the two goals made famous by none other than Argentina's own, Diego Maradona.

The first goal is so memorable, although not as great as the second, that it was named The Hand of God Goal. The second half of the Argentina vs England game ushered in some fast paced moments, ushering in Argentina's major goal in the sixth minute. As Maradona moved forward a pass was hit and miscued, bringing out the goalkeeper Peter Shilton. Shilton stood six inches taller than Diego Maradona and therefore the mismatch favored him, but as Maradona leaped he hit the ball with his fist allowing the ball to go in, and despite it being a clear penalty on film and in photos, the goal counted and is forever remembered as one of the greatest goals in football. Is it the greatest? It would’ve been, if it weren't for a few minutes later of the same game.

Minutes after the Hand of God, a goal that has been touted as being The Goal of the Century happened, and it is the best goal in football ever. Maradona once again was at the center of this one and after receiving a pass roughly 60 meters out, he rushed the English goalkeeper, sweeping past five players on his way to score a goal that would put the Argentina team up 2 - 0 in the second half.

While many people will argue that the 1986 goals have been overshadowed by a lot of competition, in 2002 the latter goal was voted as the Goal of the Century by FIFA and has yet to be surpassed in terms of skill and notoriety.
