| Jun 16th, 2010 | by EditorThe 2010 World Cup being hosted in South Africa kicked off last Friday with the customary game of the host country playing a foe in their group. South Africa battled the team from Mexico with a 1-1 tie. Since then the Cup has kicked into high gear with the team from Germany getting the most buzz as far as going home with the title.
Germany has had the most dominating performance of the tournament so far when they blasted Australia by a score of 4-0. Germany looked like a well timed and well oiled machine that stressed pinpoint passing with a fierce attack on goal. Germany was lead by Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski, and Thomas Muller.
The most hyped game of the tournament so far happened this past Saturday as the 1966 World Cup Champion England took on the team from the United States. The team from England jumped on the board with a quick goal but that was evened up later on a kick by midfielder Clint Dempsey that was deflected by the England goalie, Robert Green, and went straight into the goal. Both teams are expected to come out of their group.
The biggest thing though that has come out of South Africa for the World Cup has been the controversial horns that have been brought to the stadiums by the fans. The long trumpet resembling horns are called Vuvuzelas. When blown it is said to be as loud as a gun shot. When you have 90 percent of the stadiums filled with folks and vuvuzela blowing horns, it sounds like a huge hoard of bees. The noise that has come from some of the sites has sparked the ire of players from teams all over the world. FIFA officials have stated that they have no plans of outlawing the horns at the stadiums due to the fact that the vuvuzelas are of an ancient South African tradition.
